An elderly grandmother in China is making headlines after revealing that she walks 15 miles a day to take her grandson, who has disabilities, to school.
According to The Daily Mail, 76-year-old Shi Yuying makes four trips a day to and from her grandson’s school in the rural Guangxi Province in southern China.
Shi’s grandson, 9-year-old Jiang Haowen, is wheelchair-bound, so he cannot make the lengthy trip on her own.

“As long as I have strength, I will carry on [pushing him],” said Shi, who is currently the boy’s sole caretaker.
Pear VideoAccording to Chinese media outlets, Haowen has cerebral palsy and cannot walk, but his parents are unable to care for them on their own.

Haowen’s parents are reportedly divorced, and while his mother has since remarried, his father works in a larger city to help care for the family.
Haowen was just 2 years old when doctors first diagnosed him with cerebral palsy, so his parents immediately tried to get him into various treatment programs.
While a few of the treatments initially showed a little promise, Shi says they ultimately left Haowen’s parents with mounting medical bills and debt.

Once Haowen’s father left home to make a better life for his son, Shi stepped up to the plate to make sure her grandson was well taken care of.

Though he has cerebral palsy, Shi says her grandson is incredibly smart, which is why she’s dedicated her life to ensuring that he gets the best education possible.
Although Shi initially used a bike to help transport her grandson to school, they were given a wheelchair over the summer to make the trip easier.
Shi says she’s been heading to Haowen’s school on foot, four times a day, for the last four years—and she doesn’t plan on stopping.
Pear VideoBecause Haowen’s school is 1.86 miles away from the pair’s home, Shi must walk around 15 miles a day to ensure that her grandson gets the education he needs.
Eventually, Shi hopes to enroll Haowen in a school for children with disabilities, but until then, she will continue walking her grandson to school for as long as possible.
After this incredible story was shared online, several commenters praised Shi for putting her grandson’s education before herself.
“You are a Wonderful person who loves her grandson,, incredible!!!!” one commenter wrote.
“A grandmother's love,,,i hope she is offered help after this story goes out,” another added.
